We are extremely excited to share that the Ashtabula County EMA received word today that our county's StormReady Recognition status has been renewed until August 2030.

The StormReady program confirms that Ashtabula County is better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education, and awareness. No community is stormproof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.
StormReady uses a grassroots approach to help communities develop plans to handle all types of extreme weather—from tornadoes to winter storms. The program encourages communities to take a new, proactive approach to improve local hazardous weather operations by providing emergency managers with clear guidelines for doing so. To be officially StormReady, a community must:

 Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
 Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts, and to alert the public
 Create a system that monitors weather conditions locally
 Promote the importance of public readiness through community seminars
 Develop a formal hazardous weather plan that includes training severe weather spotters and conducting emergency exercises.

In Ohio, 48 counties, 15 universities, 4 commercial entities, and 10 supporter groups are identified as StormReady. We are very proud to have Ashtabula County in this elite designation!

An active weather pattern will keep conditions wet across the area for the remainder of the week. Multiple rounds of precipitation may result in localized flooding concerns, especially in areas that receive multiple rounds of heavy rain.

03/31/2026

A Slight Risk for Severe Weather (Level 2 of 5) has been issued for all of the area for today. All severe hazards, including damaging wind gusts, large hail, or a tornado, are possible with storms. Multiple rounds of storms are expected today, generally from 2 PM to Midnight.
