🚨Safety Friday: Rear-facing for the win! 🚗

Just because your child can face forward doesn't mean they should!
We know those little legs are getting longer, and your toddler might be ready to see the world from a different angle. But when it comes to car seat safety, rear-facing is the safest way to ride for young children.

*Why does it matter?
During a crash, a rear-facing car seat helps support your child's head, neck, and spine while distributing crash forces across their body.
When a young child is forward-facing, their head can be thrown forward with tremendous force, putting additional stress on their developing neck and spine.

🏁Remember: Keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible, until the maximum height OR weight limit allowed by their car seat's manufacturer. Many convertible car seats allow children to remain rear-facing well into their toddler years and beyond!

The child's age isn't the deciding factor in turning around!

🚒🚑 Neighbors in Service: Plainview Fire Department!

This week, we’re highlighting another great group of neighbors who help us serve Jackson County, Plainview Fire Department!

Plainview is a volunteer fire department whose members dedicate their time to answering the call when their community needs them most.

They primarily respond alongside our Med 5 crew, but you’ll also find them lending a hand to Med 2 and Med 7 when needed.

Whether it’s assisting on a medical emergency, providing extra hands on scene, or simply being there when seconds count, these volunteers play an important role in helping us care for our community.

👏 Thank you, Plainview Fire Department, for your dedication, teamwork, and willingness to serve your neighbors. We’re grateful to have you by our side!

September 2026 | By the Numbers
September was another busy month for Jackson County EMS.
Our team responded to 1,007 incidents, completed 1,081 patient care reports, and transported 641 patients to local facilities.
We also answered 759 ALS responses, provided 7 blood administrations, and assisted with 109 public assist calls across our community.
Every number represents a patient, a family, and a moment when help was needed.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Jackson County each day and thankful for the dedication of our crews, support staff, and community partners.

🚑 MEET THE CREW! 🚑
Anthony Troino and Deidre Collins are two of our newest additions to our full time line up!

Anthony has been in EMS for 12 years and serving Jackson County for 5 months. He is assigned to Med 1 on B-Shift.
When he’s off duty, he enjoys spending time at home with his wife, Leighann, and their daughter, Elliana.
One of his favorite things about JCEMS is the laid-back, family-style atmosphere combined with progressive protocols and modern equipment that help us provide the best possible patient care.
He’s always making people laugh, but according to his wife, he’s also an old man at heart! 😂 He takes his lawn care seriously and is determined to have the best-looking yard on the block!

Deidre has 10 years of EMS experience and has been serving Jackson County for 4 months. She is currently assigned as “flex”, so you may find her at any of our stations!
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her son, cheering him on at travel baseball games, traveling with him and their dog, hiking, swimming, and spending time at the beach! She’s a 3rd-degree black belt in Taekwondo with 20 years of training and has also practiced Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu! Watch out!
She loves JCEMS for its supportive, family-like environment and progressive protocols that encourage growth as a paramedic.
Her reason for becoming a paramedic is especially meaningful. After a paramedic and crew saved her dad’s life during a heart attack, she was inspired to pursue the same career. Her dad is still going strong today! ❤️
Now, she hopes to provide that same care and hope to patients and families during some of their most difficult moments.

They are both great new additions to the team! If you see them out and about, give them a 👋!

🚨Safety Friday: Don't Ghost 911!

Accidentally called 911? Don't panic and PLEASE don't hang up like you just accidentally called your ex!

So, what SHOULD you do?
* Stay on the line!
* Tell the dispatcher it was an accident. A simple, "Oops, sorry! Everything is fine!" is all it takes.
* Answer the questions. Dispatchers may need to verify that you're safe and there's no emergency.

DON'T just hang up!
If you disconnect without explaining, dispatch may attempt to call you back or send responders to check on you.

It's ok to make a mistake, just don't leave dispatch on read. 👻

🚑🚒Neighbors in Service: Arcade Fire Department

This week, we are highlighting Arcade Fire Department!
Arcade works alongside Jackson County EMS, regularly assisting Med 2, Med 6, and Med 7. Whether it's extra hands, equipment, or support on scene, we're always grateful and glad to have them there!

Arcade Fire Department is a volunteer fire department, meaning these men and women volunteer their time for training and answering calls. We are grateful for their dedication to serving their community!

And judging by a couple of faces in this week's picture...we may already be recruiting the next generation of firefighters!

Your toddler ate something they definitely weren’t supposed to. 👀
You accidentally took your morning meds… twice. 💊😬
Someone got a cleaning product on their skin and said, “Eh, I’m sure it’s fine.”
Or your kid is suspiciously quiet, and we all know that’s never a good sign.

* Before you Google symptoms and convince yourself everyone has 12 minutes to live… call Poison Control.

They’re available 24/7, and the call is FREE and confidential. Poison specialists can tell you what to do next and whether you need medical attention.

* Save the number now. Hopefully you’ll never need it, but kids, medications, chemicals, and questionable decisions have a way of keeping life interesting. 😅

🚑 Meet The Crew 🚑

Adan Cantero (left) and Robert Jenkins (right) are assigned to Med 5 on C-Shift.

Adan has been in EMS for 7 years and serving Jackson County for 5.5 years.
He is a proud father of two beautiful kids, Ellie and Elias and husband to beautiful wife, Tiffany, who is also a paramedic.
Adan loves hanging out with his family as much as he can, especially around their busy schedule. He also is learning how to cook more, recreating meals he grew up with and through food, can introduce some of his Hispanic culture to his family.
He says, “Jackson County has been a great place to work because of the level of trust we are given to treat patients with progressive protocols. It is also a laid back environment which makes being a paramedic fun and a bit easier. I enjoy helping people whether it's providing high level treatments or simply making them laugh on a rough day.”

Robert has been working in EMS for 16 years, and serving Jackson County for 1 year.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, of 18 years, and his kids. He helps coach his son’s baseball team and helps his daughter practice volleyball. He also enjoys woodworking and building with his hands.
He says, “What I love most about Jackson is the culture. There’s a strong sense of community, and I’m proud to be part of a group of people who show up every day ready to help others. Being a paramedic can be challenging, but knowing that I can make a difference in someone’s worst day is what keeps me passionate about what I do.”

Adan and Robert are great assets to our team! If you see you them out and about, give them a 👋!
