The Gum Springs Gizmos had a fantastic weekend at the Western Edge International Invitational in Long Beach, California, and earned one of the competition’s most prestigious honors. Out of 90 teams, the Gizmos were selected to receive the Peer Award, which is voted on by all participating teams and recognizes outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and adherence to core values throughout the three-day tournament. The team demonstrated the qualities embodied by this award while also excelling in project presentation, robot competition, and on-the-spot coding and robot design alongside their alliance partners from Colorado and Canada. It was a tremendous weekend for the Gizmos, and their accomplishments made their supporters incredibly proud.

The Jackson County School System is once again partnering with Fueling Georgia's Future and the Georgia Department of Education to provide summer feeding for families in need. Summer meals begin Monday, June 1, and continue Monday through Thursday until July 2. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8 a.m., and lunch is from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

The Project AWARE team held a staff wellness event on May 9th at East Jackson High School that featured two Trauma Informed Yoga sessions taught by Jonalyn Lavarias, teacher and founder of Yoga with Jonalyn.

Trauma Informed Yoga is designed for everyone, and focuses on breathing, modifications (if needed), and invitational language. JCSS staff were able to keep their yoga mats and blocks as part of self-care and wellness!
