Drowning is fast, silent and scary — but it’s also something you can help prevent. Whether you’re a caregiver, a swimmer or someone who just enjoys being near the water, it’s important to stay alert and be prepared.
You can prevent most drownings by following some simple water safety tips.
You and/or your children can:
• Learn basic CPR and water safety skills
• Take swimming lessons
• Wear life jackets
• Install a fence that fully encloses your pool
• Swim with a buddy
• Supervise children closely when they’re in or near water
It’s OK to feel overwhelmed or frightened by this topic — drowning is serious. But the more you know, the more confident you can be in protecting yourself and others.
