Parent drop off and pick up for 4th, 5th and 6th grade will be on Harrison Street on the south side of campus, just as 5th and 6th grade have been previously.

Parent pick up and drop off for the 7th and 8th grade students will remain in the circle drive off Whelan Street on the north side of campus.

The bus lane remains the same and is closed to outside traffic prior to 7:55 AM and after 3:00 PM. For safety reasons, please do not try to drop students off in the bus lane.

During the school day, the main entrance on Alley Street will remain the only entrance for parents for all grade levels at Jefferson Middle School & Jefferson Junior High School.

LONG post alert, but it is VERY important that you read all the way through! Below is a message from Mrs. Jones, along with a map of drop-off and pick-up procedures. Not much has changed from last year, but please review these. I will post a video in the next post to show an example of how everything works.

JES FAMILY UPDATE: FIRST DAY ARRIVAL & SAFETY PROCEDURES 🐾

Hello, JES Families!

We are getting so excited to welcome our Bulldogs back to school! ❤️🤍 As we prepare for the first day, I want to share a few important arrival procedures for our Kindergarten, Head Start, and Pre-K4 families.

Our first-day procedures may look a little different this year. These procedures are intentional and are designed to help us create a safe, organized, and welcoming start to the school year for every student. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we put these safeguards in place.

🐶 KINDERGARTEN ARRIVAL
Kindergarten students may be dropped off on the MLK side of the school, as usual.

On the first day:

• Kindergarten students will go directly to the gym rather than to their classrooms.
• Parents/guardians may walk their child to the gym doors only.
(If your child needs to go eat breakfast, all they have to do is tell an adult in the gym, and they can go.)
• Once inside, students will be directed to their appropriate teacher line.
• Kindergarten teachers will meet their students in the gym and walk them to their classrooms.

This process will allow our staff to ensure that every Kindergarten student is safely connected with the correct teacher and classroom.

🐾 HEAD START & PRE-K4 ARRIVAL
We understand that many of our youngest Bulldogs—and their families—may benefit from being walked into the building on the first day.

If you would like to walk your child to their Headstart/PreK classroom, please complete the following steps in advance:

Wednesday, August 12 | 8:00 AM–4:00 PM

Bring your driver's license to JES.

We will use your information to complete our required security check.

You will receive an identification badge.

On the first day of school, please use your badge to enter through the K-Wing entrance.

Walk your child to their classroom and drop them off with their teacher.

Please exit through the K-Wing when leaving the building.

Please remember: Only adults who have completed the check-in process and received a JES identification badge will be permitted to enter the building to walk students to class.

🚗 PLEASE FOLLOW OUR PARKING GUIDELINES
To keep our arrival process safe and moving smoothly, please follow these guidelines:

🚫 Do not park on Harrison Street in front of the school.
This area is reserved for the parent drop-off line. You may park in the front parking lot if you need to walk your child inside.

🚫 Do not park next to the front doors.
This area is reserved for bus drop-off.

🚫 Do not park in the MLK circle drive.
This area is reserved for parent drop-off. If you are walking your child into the building, you may park along MLK and walk to the appropriate entrance.

🚌 Please be especially mindful of buses, walkers, and students being dropped off.

❤️ A QUICK REMINDER FROM MRS. JONES
I know that new procedures can sometimes feel like an extra step, especially during the busy first days of school. Please know that every safeguard we put in place is done with one priority in mind: keeping our Bulldogs safe.

Our goal is not to make things difficult for families. Our goal is to make sure we know who is in our building, where our students are, and that every child is safely accounted for.

Thank you for partnering with us, trusting our staff, and helping us start the year safe, organized, and strong.

One Pack. One Purpose. Every Pup Achieves! 🐾

We can't wait to see our Bulldogs! ❤️🤍

Great to see Chief Perez, Constable Jeff Greer and members of the Jefferson PD while visiting Jefferson today, and to deliver some afternoon goodies for them as a thank you for their hard work.

It’s always an honor to visit with the men and women who protect, and keep our communities safe.

🚫 BURN BAN IN EFFECT – CITY OF JEFFERSON

The Jefferson Police Department would like to inform residents that Marion County has officially issued a Burn Ban.

In accordance with the City of Jefferson Code of Ordinances, which adopts the County’s Burn Ban by reference, the burn ban is also in effect within the City of Jefferson.

No outdoor burning is permitted while the burn ban remains in effect. This includes the burning of brush, leaves, limbs, and other combustible materials, except where specifically allowed by law.

With the continued hot, dry conditions, even a small fire can quickly spread and threaten lives, property, and emergency responders.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our community safe. Please monitor local announcements for updates regarding the status of the burn ban.

Thank you for doing your part to protect Jefferson and Marion County.

A REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE OF WHY THE MOVE OVER OR SLOW DOWN LAW MATTERS

This morning, an 18-wheeler became disabled in a main travel lane of U.S. Highway 59 in Jefferson. Jefferson Police Department officers responded and are assisting with traffic control, directing motorists to move over until the truck can be safely towed.

This is a real-life example of why Texas’ Move Over or Slow Down Law is so important.

When approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights, drivers are required to:

1. Move over one lane when it is safe to do so; or
2. Slow down at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit if you cannot safely move over.

Our officers are working in an active highway travel lane, only feet away from passing traffic. A few seconds of caution can prevent a serious injury or tragedy.

Slow down. Move over. Stay alert.
