⚠️ Heads up, Jackson County! ⚠️

⛈️ Scattered thunderstorms are expected across north Georgia, with the potential for heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flash flooding. Areas in northeast Georgia and the mountains have the highest flooding concern, but storms could impact much of the area.

If you have outdoor plans for today, stay weather aware and have a way to receive alerts. Water can rise quickly, and strong wind gusts can happen well outside of the storm itself. If you come across a flooded roadway, remember - turn around, don't drown!

🌧️ Rain chances will continue through the weekend and into Memorial Day. We’ll continue to share updates as we receive them from our friends at the US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia.

This week, Jackson County EMA proudly recognizes the men and women who serve behind the walls with strength, integrity, and dedication during National Correctional Officer Appreciation Week.

Correctional officers play a critical role in public safety, taking on demanding responsibilities that require resilience, patience, professionalism, and courage every single day. While much of their work happens away from the public eye, the impact they make on our community is invaluable.

These individuals work long hours in challenging environments while remaining committed to maintaining safety, security, and order. Their willingness to serve does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly thankful for the sacrifices they make for Jackson County and its citizens.

To all correctional officers and correctional staff thank you for your continued service, dedication, and hard work. Your commitment to this community is deeply appreciated, and Jackson County EMA is proud to recognize and support you today and every day. ⭐

🌀When storms threaten, stay alert and stay informed.

Whether you evacuate or shelter in place:
📱 Keep weather alerts enabled
🏠 Stay in an interior room away from windows
🌊 Move to higher ground if flooding occurs
🚗 Never drive through floodwaters

Even here in Jackson County, hurricane impacts like flooding, tornadoes, and damaging winds can occur far from the coast.

Conditions can change quickly, so be sure to continue monitoring forecasts and listen to local officials for updates and instructions.

Please keep this paramedic and family in your thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time. If you are able, please consider supporting and sharing this fundraiser. ❤️

Please take a moment to support one of our own.

Brian Atkinson, a dedicated paramedic with Jackson County EMS, is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. Following a devastating car accident, Brian tragically lost his daughter, while his two other children remain hospitalized recovering from their injuries.

As first responders, we spend our lives answering calls for help and taking care of others. Now it’s our turn to stand behind a brother who has always been there for his community.

The Jackson County Paramedic Relief Fund (a non-profit 501c run by our paramedics) has organized a 4 day fundraiser giveaway to help support Brian and his family during this unimaginable time. For just $25 a ticket, you’ll have the chance to win some incredible donated prizes from local businesses, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the Atkinson family.

Prizes include:
• Mossberg 500 Persuader package
• Recliner + barbershop package
• Blackstone griddle + golf package
• $400 Boots Etc. gift card + YETI cooler

This community has always shown up when it matters most. Let’s do it again for Brian and his family.

Please consider donating, purchasing a ticket, and sharing this post to help spread the word. Every share, prayer, and donation means more than you know.
