**TCMHS Families — A Gentle Dress Code Reminder 🖤💛**
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to provide our students with a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment.
Over the past several days, our staff has spent considerable time **reminding, redirecting, and assisting students** with meeting dress code expectations (pages 17 and 18 in the student handbook). We have provided clothing when available(t-shirts and pants ect.), offered additional items when needed, and given students multiple opportunities to correct dress code concerns with no consequences issued.
As we move forward, **students will be responsible for arriving at school dressed in accordance with the Twiggs County Public Schools Student Handbook.** (page 17 and 18)
We especially need your assistance with a few areas that have required frequent reminders:
• **Crocs must be worn in “sport mode,”** with the strap securely behind the heel. If wearing Crocs in this manner is uncomfortable or difficult for your student, we encourage choosing another school-appropriate shoe.
• **Slides and other shoes that are not secured to the foot are not permitted.** Please make sure students arrive in appropriate footwear that remains securely fastened to their feet.
• **Undergarments should never be visible.** Male and female pants should fit appropriately and remain securely at the waist. If a student's pants will not remain in place, a **belt should be worn** or different pants should be selected.
• **Midriffs/stomachs and backs should remain covered.** Shirts and tops should provide appropriate coverage throughout the school day, including while students are sitting, standing, walking, or reaching.
• **Leggings, tights, and similar garments** must be worn according to the coverage requirements outlined in the student dress code. To be acceptable, leggings and tights should be covered to mid thigh.
We respectfully ask parents and guardians to help us by having students take a quick look at their clothing and footwear **before leaving home each morning.** A few moments at home can prevent a dress code concern from becoming a disruption to the student's instructional day.
Until this point, our focus has been on reminders, redirection, and providing alternatives whenever possible. **Moving forward, dress code violations will be addressed according to the consequences outlined in the Student Handbook.**
We will provide a **digital copy of the Student Handbook**, along with the applicable consequences, so that families and students can review these expectations together.
Our intention is never to embarrass or single out a student. We simply want our expectations to be **clear, consistent, and fair for everyone.**
