🐾🚒 Blaze Sniffs Out Facts: Why Are Dalmatians Fire Dogs? 🚒🐾
Hi friends, Blaze here! Have you ever wondered why Dalmatians became fire dogs?
Long before fire trucks had engines, firefighters used horse-drawn fire wagons to respond to emergencies. Dalmatians were known for staying calm around horses and would run alongside the wagons, helping guide them through busy streets and keeping the horses calm.
When firefighters went to work at the scene, the dogs stayed behind to watch over the horses and equipment. Before long, Dalmatians became trusted members of the firehouse family.
But did you know JeffFire has its own Dalmatian history?
🐶 This is Kelly, who served with Jeffersonville Fire Dept. during the 1980s. Kelly carried on the proud tradition of firehouse Dalmatians right here in our department and became part of the family.
While I may not have spots like Kelly did, I’m proud to continue the tradition of fire dogs at Jeffersonville Fire. My job is a little different these days. I get to help teach fire safety, visit our community, support our firefighters, and remind everyone that the bond between firefighters and their four-legged companions is still alive and well.
From Kelly to me, the story of JeffFire’s fire dogs continues.
🐾 Until next time, keep sniffing out facts with me!
