What’s expected this Hurricane Season:

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to have somewhat below-normal activity. Current weak La Niña conditions are likely to shift to El Niño in the coming months, which typically brings stronger wind shear that can limit storm development.

While ocean temperatures are mixed across the Atlantic, El Niño is expected to be the dominant factor this season. Because of this, forecasters are predicting a below-average chance of major hurricane landfalls along the U.S. coastline and in the Caribbean.

⚠️ But remember: It only takes one storm to impact our community. No matter the forecast, preparation is key every single year.

Whether you’re new to the coast or a longtime local, Storm Smart Mondays will help you stay informed, confident, and ready all season long.

👉 Follow along each Monday and take one small step toward preparedness each week.

Together we stand!

GCFR, Brunswick FD, and Jekyll FR are staged for response to the Hwy 82 wildfire. We are also integrated into the incident command with fire and EMA members serving in roles. Our partnerships keep our communities safe. A special thank you to our community for the outpouring of support for the first responders from all over region.

Several people have inquired about donations for the Brantley County Wildfire Response. Jekyll Island Fire Department is not accepting donations at this time; however, Brantley County EMA does have a location identified.

From Glynn County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency

Smoke observed in the area this morning is attributed to a large brush fire in Brantley County and a separate 9,000-acre wildfire in Clinch County, underscoring the heightened fire risk across the region. As of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the burn ban remains in effect and will continue for the foreseeable future due to persistently dry conditions and no anticipated rainfall over the next 10 days. These conditions significantly increase the likelihood that even small, routine outdoor fires could rapidly become uncontrolled. In the interest of public safety, all yard debris burning and the discharge of personal fireworks are strictly prohibited per the Burn Ban by GCFR. Glynn County appreciates the continued cooperation of our partners and stakeholders in adhering to these restrictions and helping protect the community.
