Just another note encouraging our adult readers to experiment with the graphic novel format! We'll keep this mini-exhibit in the art books area for a couple of weeks (if you are not sure where that is, please ask us). These are not comic books of one's childhood! The series of adaptations, by a Japanese manga artis Gou Tanabe, of the famous master of American horror H.P. Lovecraft, is a perfect Halloween read and is guaranteed to send shivers down your spine. "Lone Wolf and Cub" by Kazuo Koike (ill. by Goseki Kojima) is a breathtakingly sweeping, brutal epic set in the Tokugawa era (the 1700s) in Japan. The art style is unique, thrilling, and completely different from what most people envision when they think about comic books or graphic novels. A must for anyone interested in the samurai lore! While the other titles, even just the ones you see in this snapshot, tackle everything from Greek mythology with a modern twist to wistful coming-of-age narratives.
