For many homeowners, an escrow account is a special holding account managed by your mortgage company. A portion of your monthly mortgage payment is set aside to cover expenses like property taxes and homeowners insurance when they’re due.

If your monthly house note includes an escrow for property taxes, simply forward your property tax notice to your mortgage company. They will use the funds in your escrow account to pay your property taxes on your behalf.

If you’re ever unsure whether your property taxes are escrowed, your mortgage company can help confirm that for you.

Did you know?

The community of Trout was founded in the early 1900s as a company town built around the Trout Creek Lumber Company, one of William Buchanan’s largest lumber operations. Chosen for its abundant longleaf pine forests and reliable water source, Trout quickly grew into a bustling community with homes, a school, church, post office, hotel, company store, and railroad depot.

At its peak, the mill employed hundreds of workers and produced more than 700 million board feet of lumber, helping shape both the local economy and the landscape of central Louisiana. After nearly 25 years of operation, the mill closed in 1929 as the surrounding virgin pine forests had largely been harvested.

Today, Trout is much quieter than its lumber boom days, but many of the original company homes still stand as reminders of a community built from Louisiana’s rich timber heritage.

Did you know?

The Town of Urania traces its roots to the mid-1800s, when settlers from Mississippi and other parts of the South established homesteads in what was then known as Maxwell Springs, named for pioneer Wiley P. Maxwell and a large natural spring near the center of town.

Education has long been an important part of Urania’s story. Early schools served local families as the community grew, eventually leading to the construction of Urania High School in 1925. The school became a source of pride for generations of residents and remained in operation until 1950, when students joined neighboring communities at LaSalle High School.

Urania also earned statewide recognition for its basketball program. Despite being a small school, the Urania High teams competed at the highest levels, winning championships and even traveling to Chicago in 1925 to compete in a national tournament.

The town’s history is also marked by service and sacrifice. During World War II, more than 300 men and women from the Urania area served in the military, including several Urania High graduates who gave their lives in service to our nation.

From its beginnings as a frontier settlement to its legacy of education, athletics, and community spirit, Urania remains an important part of LaSalle Parish’s rich history.
