I am gonna try and explain this the best I can. Burn bans are put on for many reasons, not just dry conditions.

1) They may be put on when water supply is an issue.

2) Maybe the Fire Department's resources are stretched thin.

3) No electricity for an extended period of time.

4) Maybe a neighboring parish is having water problems and have asked another parish for water.

5) If we send a truck to a neighboring parish, you also send 2 men in that truck, which also means you lost 2 firemen that you could count on.

The Burn Ban hasn't been on for barely 2 weeks. If you give your stuff a little time to sit, it will burn better. Next week we are supposed to have a cool front come thru, why not wait till then. Don't burn just because you saw someone else burning, step up and be the better person. People wanted to burn just as soon as their lights came on, not everyone got power at the same time. Rather than jumping to conclusions or jumping on a post with a negative comment, have a little respect and try to do your part.

At this time, the State of Louisiana is still under a burn ban. More than likely when the state lifts the burn ban, LaSalle parish will still remain under a burn ban. The burn ban wasn't implemented because people didn't have electricity, it was implemented so Firefighters could focus there attention on other situations. Over the last 8 days in LaSalle parish, Fire Departments have helped run pretty hard and have been helping in the community. Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Linemen from all over the U.S. have worked long days trying to restore power, but the last 2 days the Jena FD lost power in the middle of the day. All we are asking is for people to refrain from burning. That pile will still be there in a couple of weeks, more than likely it will burn better (green wood doesn't burn). You can ask people not to burn, and some only think about theirselves, but once there is a fine attached to it, some won't burn. Then there are some people that just don't care. Stop and think next time you light a fire.

The Jena FD will not give anyone permission to burn, unless it is in an approved fire pit, until the burn ban in LaSalle parish is lifted. We don't have a day shift and night shift, if the call comes, we are both shifts. We're all tired, have a little respect for your local FD.

Please be very cautious and on high alert for possible scams. If you receive anything resembling the letter shown below contact our office. Do not try to cash the money order.

**Scam Alert**
The Olla Police Department along with several other agencies have received reports of fraudulent activities. With the use of checks, or money orders in this case, there are several scams that are being utilized. The generic basis of these scams involve the receipt of a check or money order, which appear real and could potentially be a duplicate.

The receipt of these payments typically come with instructions provided by the “organization”. They will portray to be from a company that is seeking advertisement or acting as if you are a “lucky winner”. The organization will ask that you return a certain amount after cashing your check or money order. You’ll be asked to return payment of a specific amount with the use of prepaid cards. Your method of return will be to activate these prepaid cards and send pictures of the card in its entirety to the address or number provided.

It is the goal of this department to provide awareness in efforts to prevent you from being the next victim of this scam. Our records in conjunction with surrounding jurisdictions have indicated that no one is exempt from being targeted. Remember that if you cash a fraudulent document, you will be liable for reimbursement to the financial institution.

We have been in contact with the federal agency that oversees postal deliveries. This agency has indicated that it’s an ongoing issue that seems to be on the rise In recent weeks.

Remember that if it seems too good to be true, then it might just be.

Feel free to share to those that may need to learn as we are trying to educate the public.

On the night of August 18th, 2019 around 10:30 PM, a Jena Police Officer was on patrol on East Oak Street when he observed a gold Chevy truck cross over the fog line while passing Speedy Mac's. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle which came to a stop in the Sonic parking lot.

Upon contact with the driver, the officer observed him to be very nervous and having slurred speech. After asking the driver for his identification, the driver advised the officer that his license were suspended. After a computer check, the officer confirmed the driver to have a suspended license.

While questioning the driver about his suspended license, the officer observed a smell coming from inside the vehicle commonly associated with an alcoholic beverage. The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle at that time for further investigation.

The driver was advised of his rights per Miranda and the driver advised that he understood. The driver was asked about how much alcohol he consumed and the driver advised "two or three beer". The driver submitted to SFST (Standard Field Sobriety Test) after asked by the officer if he would. The driver showed several signs of impairment during the test.

The driver was then handcuffed and advised he was being placed under arrest for suspicion of Driving while Intoxicated. The driver was then offered to give a breath sample at LPSO Jail in which the driver refused.

The driver was arrested for the following charges:

LRS 14:98 DWI 1st
LRS 32:415 Driving under Suspension
LRS 32:79 Improper Lane Usage

Chief McLendon would like to thank his patrol officers for continuing to patrol the streets of our town and keeping them safe. As always, if you have any information concerning suspicious activity or need assistance, please contact us. We will be ready to assist you.

Are there any specific state, parish or city laws against popping fireworks within the city limits? If they are allowed, what are the rules and is there a specific time that they should stop according to the law? I would appreciate an answer. Thank you!
so a couple came into your PD this morning and then proceeded to take my grandmother, who has dementia, from my mother, obviously my grandmothers daughter. even though my grandmother couldnt tell the officer what day it was, which might i add is her birthday today, she couldnt tell him what year it is, couldnt name the president, couldnt tell them her birthday, etc.... the officers allowed them to take her. i want to bring something to your closed minds!! did any of your officers once hear this couple even ask once about her medications, drs, or just any info of her medical conditions or health at all?! Nope, they sure didnt!! the only thing the couple mentioned was where is grandmas truck and where is grandmas grandfather clock in her house, which i will add that they broke into and changed the locks on and now the PD in that area which worked with my mom for a yr to get her help, is now having to keep close watch on so they dont go in and steal her blind! this man that now has my grandmother has records in the state of tx for being physically abusive with my grandmother, choking her, hitting her, and punching her. the woman, his ex wife, wants control of my grandmothers little checks she gets and the house and all items within it. THE REST OF THE FAMILY WAS GOING TO SELL EVERYTHING SO THAT SHE COULD GET MEDICAID, HOME CARE ASSISTANCE, MEDICARE, so now we wait!! because the laws suck for these types of patients, we wait til either some thing happens to her or she just goes missing!! LET ME GIVE JENA PD A BIG FREAKING HAND ON A JOB WELL SCREWED UP!! U GUYS DESERVE IT!! all that freaking hard work to get her to the right drs, the right medications, becoming nonviolent, and so much more, u guys just pissed on everything
