Please see the statement below and a link to the Jenkintown PD Study (Smeal Report). The very limited redactions are explained here. The same can be found by going to the Borough Website directly.

The Jenkintown Borough Council and Mayor Gabe Lerman felt it was necessary to release the Smeal Report completed in 2020 regarding the Jenkintown Borough Police Department with very limited redactions. The redactions that are part of this release are specific to the security of the Police Department facility and specific investigative operational information. All recommendations for improving the operations and performance of the Police Department are visible for the public to review. We understand the concerns raised to why this was not published in this manner originally. We felt it was necessary to correct that decision and be completely transparent regarding the issues and concerns that are affecting possible decisions regarding police service in the Borough.

While no decisions have been made, it’s important to acknowledge that the status quo is not sustainable.

In the coming days and weeks, look for invitations to join public meetings and engage in discussion to find the right solution for our community.

Jenkintown spends more than half its annual budget on policing. Officials believe contracting out the services with neighbors Abington and Cheltenham makes sense.

Good morning, Jenkintown!

Letters to Santa is back! We are once again accepting your children’s letters to Santa at the police station. If you are unfamiliar with this program, let me explain…

A few years back we started collecting letters on behalf of Santa and then hand delivering his personalized responses to your children. This program has been very popular in the community, and is very rewarding for the officers of The JPD to help bring some joy to the kids. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

The mailbox is outside of the PD lobby awaiting your letters. Parents, if you could please make sure your child’s name and address are clearly marked on or in the letter it would make Santa’s helper’s job a lot easier. We always have a few issues with letters not being labeled which really can be a challenge for our Elf Detectives. Letters can be dropped off at any time from today until December 21st — the earlier the better to make sure we can get Santa’s response back to your kids before the big day.

Spread the word, Christmas will be here before you know it! 🎅🏼 📝 👮🏻‍♂️
