We will meet at the Jenner Headlands Preserve parking lot at 8pm and take a slow walk at dusk up to Sentinel Point while we listen to the evening sounds of the ocean, the hoots of owls in the trees and the howing coyotes in the distance. From the peak of Sentinel Point, we will watch the sunset and and fully appreciate the longest day of the year.

The hike will be about about 2 miles with 300' of elevation gain.

Let’s discover the handful of incredible old-growth trees that remain in this forest in recovery. 7 miles with 200’ of elevation gain.

Despite a century of logging operations, including clear-cutting, there remains reminders of the forest’s original granduer. This 7 mile guided hike will take us to areas not normally open to the public to seek out the remaining old-growth and learn about our efforts to restore the forest and its important ecological functions.

We are excited to report we've recently observed adult steelhead heading up East Branch Russian Gulch to spawn!

Steelhead trout are actually the same species as rainbow trout- the difference being that steelhead have access to the ocean, so they take advantage of that opportunity by migrating out to sea to feed on the ocean's abundance before returning to freshwater rivers to spawn.

Because of this, they grow significantly larger and more powerful than non-migratory trout. Notably, steelhead are iteroparous, meaning they can survive the spawning process and return to the sea to repeat the cycle multiple times, whereas Coho and Chinook salmon die after spawning once.
