🚨 Slow Down. Look Up. Arrive Alive. 🚨
As summer gets into full swing, emergency responders throughout our area have already responded to far too many motor vehicle accidents. While every crash is different, many share the same common factors: speed, distractions, and inattention behind the wheel.
Did you know we're currently in what's often called the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer?" The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day historically sees an increase in serious and fatal crashes across the country. With more drivers on the road, family vacations, summer activities, and teen drivers out of school, the risk increases for everyone.
A text message can wait.
That social media notification can wait.
Adjusting the radio can wait.
The life of the person in the vehicle next to you can't.
Before you put your vehicle in drive:
✅ Put your phone away.
✅ Buckle your seatbelt.
✅ Obey speed limits.
✅ Leave plenty of following distance.
✅ Stay alert and watch for motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, and farm equipment.
Every time our firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, and dispatchers respond to a crash, we're reminded how quickly a normal day can change forever.
This summer, help us reduce the number of emergency calls by making safe choices behind the wheel. Your family, your friends, and our first responders are counting on you.
Drive safe, Jerome. We would much rather see you at a summer barbecue than at the scene of an accident.
