The Division of Supportive Housing & Social Services serves over 1,000 people annually with a wide range of programs for those that face homelessness, substance use, mental illness and/or HIV/AIDS. We provide supportive housing for special needs populations, including individuals and families. We also serve over 500 homeless people annually though a drop-in program, case management services, Homel
ess Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing Program, and through an emergency shelter. In 2010, we created a food pantry as another step to prevent hunger and homelessness. The Division of Housing and Community Development implements a real estate and economic development strategy that furthers the revitalization of emerging markets by targeting eyesores and re-purposes them as quality affordable housing for people priced out of the market. This in done on a scattered site basis for low and high density development through new construction and rehab. This program serves over 600 people annually and completed 188 units with another 100 units to be completed by 2015. Brick and mortar approaches are supplemented with housing education, policy advovacy and neighborhood planning initiatives.
