Arts to Grow

Arts to Grow If you believe the arts can improve a child's life, LIKE ARTS TO GROW! Arts to Grow launched its first three programs in September 2005.

Arts to Grow bridges the gap between arts education and shrinking school district budgets by providing Teaching Artists and research-based curriculum to produce future leaders and strengthen local communities at no cost to working families. Since then, our portfolio of program partners has grown to 17 programs in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Hoboken (NJ), and Newark (NJ). Thanks to our

sponsors and volunteers, we’ve had the opportunity to offer over 108 high quality programs and serve over 2,500 children. Students’ artistic talents are nurtured by ATG’s experienced Teaching Artists, a specific curriculum created for each class, and a 1:12 teaching artist to student ratio. Over 35 highly qualified teaching artists have worked with ATG to instill self-confidence and a love of learning in our students.

Twelve students ages 5-12 have been moving full STEAM ahead in our visual arts program at Hope for Us in the Bronx this semester, learning to combine art with science to produce fun and interactive projects. In our fourth semester with Hope for Us, a program serving a mix of students affected by sickle cell disease and their unaffected peers, Teaching Artist Kali Dinh worked with students to master both artistic and scientific concepts to bring their creations to life. Standing alone on stage can be intimidating even for most adults, but for 18 fourth-through-eighth graders in our afterschool Theatre Arts program at Manhattan’s Our Lady of Pompeii School, it’s become a confidence-building way to connect with their peers. Teaching Artist Meagan Smith begins each class with a recitation of the rules—One Mic, Respect, and Say Yes—reminding her young actors to take turns speaking, be courteous to their fellow performers, and try new things.
