UPDATE - 9/2/2026: BLUE ALERT CANCELED

At about 11:39 a.m., the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car in Anderson, SC. Steverson was a passenger in the car

When law enforcement made contact with the car, they discovered Steverson injured from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Steverson was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

A BLUE ALERT has been issued for Jimmie Steverson, age 23. Steverson is wanted for the death of Chris Fisher, a Warm Springs Police Department officer, that occurred on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. in Warm Springs, GA.

Steverson is a black male, 5’6”, 150 lbs, with black locs and brown eyes. He was last seen in Warm Springs, GA, on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. Steverson was wearing a black t-shirt and black gym shorts. He was traveling in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado.

Steverson is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or see any suspicious activity, please take immediate precautions and notify 911.

Deputy Torezchavez participated in Screven’s 5k run this morning. He also elected to complete the run with a full plate carrier (body armor) adding 20lbs and still finishing 2nd in his age group. When asked why he didn’t get 1st, he laughed and said, “no way, they had a dude there that was a MONSTER runner!”

Deputy Torezchavez has been a part time deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for approximately 2 years now.

Detective Simmons was also present and participated in the fun run. He has served with the Sheriff’s Office for approximately 7 years.

Also note that both are military vets.

All burn bans for the county have been lifted. Be mindful of still burning things we have had rain but still in drought.

Just to clarify Wayne County is still in the burn ban as you see listed in orange on the map.

🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.
