🚒 HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND AT WALMART 🚒

You'll notice City of Jesup Fire Department and in front of Walmart today through Monday accepting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

100% of all donations collected are sent directly to MDA in support of their mission to empower individuals living with neuromuscular disease by continuing to research and develop effective treatments and therapies.

Since 1954, hundreds of Fire Departments across the United States have, and continue to, support this initiative.

The power of a community in action was on full display yesterday and City of Jesup Fire Department members were able to witness it firsthand as the 2026 Georgia Recovery Bus Tour rolled into town. Sobriety is an accomplishment that deserves celebration and celebrate we did!

City of Jesup Fire Department B-Shift members have been hard at work the past 2 days. Yesterday was spent learning and performing basic monthly maintenance on Ladder 1, and trained today on hose deployments.

Mallory was last seen at the hospital at approximately 9:30 AM wearing a hospital gown and yellow socks.

Plan accordingly and be patient while driving through the Walmart area until these road repairs are completed.

Heads Up ⚠️ Jesup ⚠️
Unscheduled lane closure tomorrow near Walmart.

If you're leaving Jesup eastbound on US 84 just past the James E. Johnson🚦intersection at Walmart, be aware of a short lane closure to be installed on Aug. 25.

Contractors will be working in the roadway on repairs close to the center of the two eastbound travel lanes. Be aware of workers 👷 and equipment in close proximity to the open travel lane. This lane closure could be extended beyond Tuesday if repairs require it.

This past Saturday, two City of Jesup Fire Department C-Shift members traveled to Hazlehurst to attend "Handling Flammable & Combustible Liquid Incidents". This course is sponsored by Georgia Public Safety Training Center and led by staff members/adjunct instructors.

This is a live fire event that teaches personnel how to operate specialized foam systems to extinguish ignitable non-pressurized liquid fires. The most common products we are all familiar with are gasoline and diesel.

The City of Jesup Fire Department hosted the SCOTT Level 1 SCBA Technician course led by MES Life Safety Instructor Tim Morris today. We were joined by members of Bulloch County Fire Department, Richmond Hill Fire Department, Tifton Fire Department, and Thomas County Fire Department.

An SCBA is a "Self Contained Breathing Apparatus", and provides clean breathing air to members while they operate in toxic environments. Gaining this certification allows certain in-house repairs to be completed without having to send these units to the factory. This allows each agency to save taxpayer dollars by reducing the associated shipping and labor costs.

For today’s daily training, the B shift crew trained on water cans! We were fortunately able to complete this training early before lunch to beat today’s heat!

The water can is a Class A fire extinguisher containing 2.5 gallons of water. These are the same silver fire extinguishers you would commonly see at a retail store near fireworks.

The water can is extremely versatile and easily reusable. We reviewed how to properly refill and charge the water can, which is simply filled with water and charged with air to 100psi.

After that, the crew was able to get some good reps in our burn box utilizing the water can. As you can see, you can knock down a lot of fire with just 2.5 gallons of water if applied appropriately.

The pictures below show some inexpensive modifications that make our water cans more efficient. The upgraded hitch pin allows the pin to stay in place better, rather than falling out as the standard pin does. The added golf ball makes it easier to pull the pin with gloves on.

We don't typically post about incident response but this is different.

Yesterday evening, City of Jesup Fire Department A-Shift members responded to a working fire at an industrial site. The initial response brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes, but that's not the whole story.

Due to the size of the buiding (over 150,000 square feet), the ventilation fans we carry proved to be ineffective at removing smoke from the structure. Thinking outside of the box, contact was made with 2 local airboat owners who graciously agreed to support our operation. Not long after both airboats arrived, this tactic proved successful in clearing the building.

Great job A-Shift on having an aggressive mindset and mitigating this quickly.

Thank you to all other agencies that came to assist; but most importantly to those community members who heeded the call when needed.
