⚠️ WAYNE COUNTY EMS SAFETY ALERT FOR PARENTS ⚠️

A dangerous social media trend circulating on TikTok encourages teens to take excessive amounts of Benadryl® (diphenhydramine) in an attempt to experience hallucinations. This practice is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious medical emergencies, hospitalization, and even death.

💊 Medications should ONLY be taken as directed and for their intended purpose. Even over-the-counter medications can be harmful when misused.

Signs and symptoms of a Benadryl overdose may include:
• Extreme drowsiness or difficulty waking up
• Confusion or agitation
• Hallucinations
• Rapid heart rate
• Blurred vision
• Dry mouth or flushed skin
• Seizures
• Difficulty breathing
• Loss of consciousness

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents, please:
✅ Talk with your children about the dangers of social media challenges.
✅ Keep all medications secured and out of reach.
✅ Monitor medication quantities in your home.
✅ Encourage your children to speak with you if they see harmful online trends.

🚑 If you suspect your child has taken too much Benadryl:

• Call Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 for expert guidance.

• Call 911 or seek emergency medical care immediately if your child is having trouble breathing, is having a seizure, becomes unresponsive, or cannot be awakened.

No social media challenge is worth risking a life. Please help us keep our children safe by sharing this important message.

🏊‍♀️☀️ Pool Safety Saves Lives ☀️🏊‍♂️

As temperatures rise and families head outdoors, Wayne County EMS would like to remind everyone that water safety should always be a top priority.

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, often in less than a minute. Children should never be left unattended around pools, ponds, lakes, rivers, or any body of water.

💙 Pool Safety Tips:
✅ Always provide constant, close supervision when children are in or near water.
✅ Designate a responsible adult "Water Watcher" and avoid distractions such as phones.
✅ Install four-sided fencing with self-closing and self-latching gates around pools. Remove ladders from above ground pools.
✅ Ensure children wear properly fitted life jackets when boating or swimming in open water.
✅ Teach children how to swim, but remember that swimming lessons do not replace supervision.
✅ Keep rescue equipment and a phone nearby in case of an emergency.
✅ Learn CPR—it can save a life while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

🌊 Remember: Water attracts children, and accidents can happen in seconds. Staying alert and following basic safety measures can help ensure a fun and safe summer for everyone.

If an emergency occurs, call 911 immediately.

Wayne County EMS wanted to thank our community for the wonderful show of appreciation we received during EMS week! We are truly blesed to work in a community that goes above and beyond to show how valued we are!! Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain pictures of all the goodies we received, but please know they were appreciated beyond measure!

Special thank you to AirEvac and Wayne County Georgia Government for providing snacks, goodies, drinks, pizza and treats to each shift!!

Also shout out to Sikes of Wayne for the wonderful raffle gifts and the ability to allow our community to say some great things about the EMS providers in Wayne County.
