Multi-Agency Horse Rescue Underway in Amelia County

Amelia County, Va. — A multi-agency rescue operation is currently underway after a horse became trapped down an embankment in Amelia County, sources tell us.

The incident is reportedly taking place in the 16000 block of Royalton Road, where sources say the horse became stuck in mud in a wooded area approximately six feet down an embankment.

Multiple fire departments from surrounding counties have responded to assist with the rescue, which reportedly began earlier this evening.

Crews remain on scene actively working to safely remove the horse from the embankment.

⚠️ Busy Sunday morning

At 07:01, Off Road 3 was requested by Company 2 to respond to Wills Rd for assistance with a tree that was on fire in the woods.

At 10:02, Company 3 & 5 responded to a 2 vehicle accident with rollover on 360 at Drunkard Rd.

A toy poodle has gone missing from a terrible wreck at Drunkard Rd and 360. Please keep your eyes open for Teddy. If seen, do not chase! He is scared and potentially injured

Additional waves of smoke from Ontario, Canada wildfires will push south into the area through Friday. This will create hazy conditions with diminished air quality. An Air Quality Alert is in effect today for the Norfolk and Richmond metro areas and the lower Maryland Eastern Shore.

Smoke could get pushed farther down toward the surface later in the week, resulting in diminished visibility in haze and possible additional air quality restrictions.

A Flood Watch has been issued for much of central and southeastern Virginia, extending south into northeast North Carolina, through late this evening. Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flash flooding, especially in urban, low-lying, and poor drainage areas. Please use caution if you encounter flooded roadways.
