Our office has received recent reports of phone calls purportedly originating from the Sheriff's Office or other Court Offices relating to warrants or other actions for failure to appear for Jury Duty. These calls are spoofing Carbon County Court Office numbers. If you receive such a call, do not give any personal identifying information and hang up. You can verify the accuracy of the call by calling the appropriate office. Please remember, just as you ONLY receive WRITTEN notice to appear for Jury Duty, if you fail to appear, the Court may issue a WRITTEN Rule to Show Cause why you did not appear.

An important new law is now in effect. Any driver caught holding a phone or other handheld device behind the wheel can be stopped and fined. Police may pull drivers over solely for this violation, even at red lights or in stopped traffic.

Named for Paul Miller Jr., a 21 year old killed by a distracted driver, this law reflects years of advocacy from his family and public safety leaders across the Commonwealth.

For prosecutors and law enforcement, this is a critical tool that will save lives and hold distracted drivers accountable. If a distracted driver causes a fatal crash, penalties can include up to five additional years in prison.

PDAA and Pennsylvania’s law enforcement community are urging drivers to put the phone down. Protect your life and someone else’s.
