Due to an increase in reported grass fires, please remember to burn responsibly as temperatures increase. Lack of moisture throughout the winter has resulted in drier-than-normal conditions. Consider the following before torching a good one:

-Contact dispatch at 541-575-9111 and let us know you're ready to burn!
-Have plenty of water/tools nearby to extinguish things properly (and quickly if needed).
-Never hesitate to call 911 if an emergency arises or a pile gets away from you; the sooner the better.

If you have any BURNING questions, don't hesitate to contact your local jurisdiction ;)

May 12- May 18th is National Police Week! At this time, I would like to express my agency’s heartfelt appreciation for the excellent law enforcement officers who serve Grant County.

Being a law enforcement officer in a rural community is not for the faint of heart. It’s not what is portrayed in the famous TV shows. It isn’t NYPD Blue or the Andy Griffith Show. Growing up in a law enforcement family gave me a unique perspective on what it’s like for the men and women serving our communities.

It’s missed family events.

It’s running out of a restaurant after you’ve ordered your meal because you’ve been dispatched to an emergency.

It’s responding to the worst of the worst, occasionally involving a family member or a friend.

It’s arresting someone on a Friday night and then standing in line with them at the grocery store checkout the next Friday.

It’s personally receiving reports of incidents or questions from the public any time of the day or night because the public knows you personally.

It’s throwing on a vest and uniform and bolting out of the house in the middle of the night because someone is having the worst night of their life.

It’s working on a search and rescue for days on end.

It’s saving lives, or offering support when nothing more can be done.

From a family member’s perspective, it’s hoping they make it home at the end of every shift.

It’s doing all these things (mostly) thanklessly back to back, day after day, week after week.

To all of Grant County's law enforcement officers… THANK YOU for your daily sacrifices and unwavering commitment to our community. It is an honor to serve alongside you!

As we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, I would like to take a moment to recognize Grant County’s outstanding dispatchers.

Our center currently employs four full-time dispatchers, one part-time dispatcher, and two reserve dispatchers. Together we total 107 years of experience and over 5500 training hours.

Emergency dispatching requires a delicate balance of kindness and assertiveness. We act as therapists, negotiators, detectives, parents, a road report database, and occasionally a GPS. As dispatchers, it is our duty to ensure the safety of the public by offering the highest quality of compassionate service. It is our duty to ensure our partnering first responders make it home safely after every shift. Dispatching is a demanding profession where perfection is expected, but it is so incredibly rewarding.

As a director, it is an honor to work with such phenomenal dispatchers. Grant County is blessed to have a team serving them that cares so deeply and loves their community. Their hard work does not go unnoticed and is appreciated!

Thank you for all your hard work Angia Hannibal, Lori Shepherd, Zach Shoop, Simon Gee, Valerie Maynard, and Suzanne Settle! You make our community a better place!

Cammie Haney
911 Director

Happy Birthday, 9-1-1!

On February 16, 1968, history was made in Haleyville, Alabama, with the inaugural 9-1-1 call, marking a transformative moment for emergency response in America. This landmark, later becoming Haleyville's City Hall, symbolizes the genesis of the vital service we’ve all come to rely on today.

As we commemorate this anniversary, let's honor the commitment and courage of 9-1-1 personnel across the country. Their unwavering dedication ensures our safety, proving them to be everyday heroes. Let’s celebrate the historical significance of 9-1-1 and thank those who safeguard our communities.
