Established in 1991, Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing quality therapeutic horseback riding programs to individuals with a wide variety of disabilities in a safe and enjoyable environment. Therapeutic riding, also known as Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, is the use of horses and equine-oriented activities to achieve a variety
of therapeutic goals. Both the American Physical and Occupational Therapy Associations recognize therapeutic riding as an approved therapeutic tool, offering clients a wide range of benefits including improved balance, mobility, muscle tone, coordination and posture, increased concentration and self-confidence, and enhanced independence.
