TEAM WORK! Yesterday was a special day for Blanco County. Responders from all of Blanco County and Stonewall VFD assisted with mutual aid to Johnson City. So what makes it special? Training, Coordination, Skill, and interdepartmental cooperation. We had personnel from Round Mountain manning JCVFD trucks, Personnel from JCVFD riding in Blanco trucks, and Blanco and Stonewall personnel operation JCVFD trucks. Even Starflight got in to the action. That's right, it made no difference which station you reported to, once in the field everybody rolled up their sleeves and got to work. The fire service is special and yesterday was no exception.
No structures were lost, nobody was injured, and those who had to evacuate will have something to talk about for a very long time. Just another day in the Hill Country.

Yesterday, 22 April 26 Johnson City VFD and several other emergency agencies trained with the crews from Star Flight. The goal was to have a hands on experience with the tools, personnel, and air craft we will encounter during an emergence situation. In all it was a wonderful experience and we hope that in some way our training translates to a quick and efficient response. Our goal is to provide the best possible emergence service to Blanco County.

The day starts early if your are a volunteer firefighter in Johnson City. A crew from JC spent the day assisting Willow City in Gillespie County to suppress the Nebo Fire. It was hot, dusty, smokey, and a very rough landscape but the Johnson City crew did our part to secure the East flank. We worked with crews from Round Mountain and other agencies. Although it was a challenging day, it is in a way a pleasure to work with other dedicated people in the fire service.

Blanco Co is now under a Burn Ban!!!

02/09/2026

No pictures today. Several of us were in training this morning and the rest of the crew was chasing fires all over the county. I must admit we did abandoned training to deal with a structure fire in Johnson City but our instructor is understanding.
All of that said to simply point out we are in a very delicate situation with all the dead grass. Regardless of what the burn ban status, we need your help to manage these fires.
Today we came home with a badly burned truck and we are still evaluating the damage to other vehicles on the fire line. Please please please if you must burn, use extreme caution. Better yet, wait until conditions improve.

Yesterday JCVFD had to step in for Blanco ESD #2 and respond to a wildfire while they were busy on another call. We are grateful for all the support we receive from other departments and we will never hesitate to help out when needed. This proved to be a manageable grass fire but it could have gotten out of hand without a quick response.
