📚 WCDP’s Read & Resist Book Club needs your help selecting our Pride Month read! We are offering up two non-fiction and two fiction choices to our book club members this month. Comment your choice below and check back to see which book wins! Our next meeting will be held on Wed June 24th at 6:30pm in the WCDP HQ. We’d love to have you join us! Not everyone reads the books, some arrive having only gotten through part of the books, some are pages away from finishing them—-and it doesn’t matter. No judgements here! Just join us for enlightening discussions and conversation.

Check out the different ways you can get involved locally to help boost our candidates’ visibility and messaging. Help build a democracy that works for all of us! Rooted in Community. 📚✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for this month’s Read & Resist Book Club discussion of Separation of Church & Hate by John Fugelsang. We had an engaging conversation about the dangers of Christian Nationalism and why protecting the separation of church and state matters for people of all faiths—and those with none.
We also explored the historical context of the Bible, including how translations and interpretations have changed over time, and reflected on the idea that these texts were written by men seeking to understand and explain God through their own perspectives—which has led to it being used to support war, slavery, racism, and misogyny. Through it all, we returned to the central message found in the teachings of Jesus: compassion, justice, humility, and above all—-love for others.

We also briefly discussed last month’s book, Unbelievable, which touched on the false narrative that most r**es are “made up” and how police forces ignoring r**e victims leads to many refusing to even report the crimes committed against them. It was a page turner for sure!

Thank you for helping create a thoughtful, respectful space for discussion, learning, and community. 💙

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we owe them a debt that can never truly be repaid.
This Memorial Day, may we reflect with gratitude, honor their memory, and support the families and communities who carry their legacy forward. 🇺🇸

Today, we stand in solidarity with the people of Memphis and with Black and brown communities across Tennessee whose voices and representation are being deliberately weakened for political gain. What Tennessee Republicans passed is a direct attack on representative democracy and public trust.

Tennesseans should be outraged that:
• Black voters in Memphis are being split apart to weaken their ability to elect candidates who represent their communities;
• every meaningful transparency amendment was voted down, shutting the public out of decisions that impact our democracy;
• politicians are using gerrymandering to lock in power and silence Tennesseans they disagree with; and
• taxpayer dollars are being spent on a special session to protect politicians instead of helping families afford groceries, healthcare, childcare, or infrastructure improvements.

Tennesseans deserve leaders focused on serving the people of this state, not protecting themselves from the voters they were elected to represent.
