Petitions are now available at our office for the following offices:
• Johnson City Commissioner (2 seats)
• Town of Jonesborough Mayor
• Town of Jonesborough Alderman (2 seats)

📌 Deadline to file: August 20, 2026 @ noon
📌 Withdrawal deadline: August 27, 2026 @ noon

We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.

As a reminder, Monday, June 22 is also the first day candidates may pick up nominating petitions for the November 2026 election, including:
• Johnson City Commission
• Jonesborough Mayor
• Jonesborough Aldermen

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in your community? Now’s your chance! We have openings for precinct workers for Election Day on Thursday, August 6, and we’d love to have you join our team.
This is a paid position and a great opportunity to play an important role in the election process right here in Washington County.
What to expect:
• Polls are open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
• Workers should plan to arrive early and stay a bit later to assist with setup and closing procedures
• It’s a full day—but a rewarding one spent serving your community!

The sample ballot for the August 6, 2026 Election is now available. This election includes the State & Federal Primary, Johnson City Primary (JC School Board), County General Election, and Johnson City Municipal Election (JC Juvenile Court Judge).

Please note that this is a full sample ballot containing all contests that may appear throughout Washington County, TN. When you vote, your ballot will only include the offices, candidates, and questions applicable to your specific district and precinct.

▪️Voters participating in a party primary will also receive the County General Election ballot.
▪️ Voters may choose to vote only the County General Election ballot if they wish.
▪️ Ballots will also contain the Judicial Retention Questions.
▪️ Johnson City offices will appear only on the ballots of voters who reside within the Johnson City, city limits.

We encourage voters to review and familiarize themselves with the ballot before voting.

As a reminder, the Washington County Election Commission is a nonpartisan office. We do not endorse or oppose any candidate, political party, or ballot measure. Our role is to administer elections and provide voters with accurate election information.

One thing about the election office - we are always looking ahead!

While many voters are focused on the upcoming August Election (🙌), we also want to remind those interested in local municipal offices that nominating petitions will soon be available for pickup!

Those offices include:
Johnson City Commission (2 seats), Town of Jonesborough Mayor, and Town of Jonesborough Alderman (2 seats)

First Day to Pick up: June 22, 2026
Qualifying Deadline: August 20, 2026 at 12 Noon
Withdrawal Deadline: August 27, 2026 at 12 Noon

Interested candidates may pick up nominating petitions beginning June 22 at the Washington County Election Commission office located at 2516 East Oakland Ave, Johnson City, TN 37601.

Election timelines move quickly, and November will be here before we know it! More information and important deadlines will continue to be shared as election season progresses.

The Washington County Election Commission has received official write-in candidacy filings for the August 6, 2026 County General Election.

Individuals wishing to qualify as an official write-in candidate must file a Write-In Candidacy Form with our office no later than

🗓 Wednesday, June 17, 2026
🕛 12:00 Noon

Forms can be obtained and completed at our office or you can download and print the form through the Tennessee Secretary of State’s website at:
https://sos.tn.gov/elections/services/write-in-candidacy-form

Please note: completed forms must be filed with our office by the deadline above in order for write-in votes to be eligible to be counted in accordance with Tennessee election law. T.C.A. §§ 2-7-133 and 2-8-113

Sample ballots for the August 6, 2026 election are currently in the process of being reviewed and verified and will be posted as soon as they become available.

Voters with questions regarding certified write-in candidates may contact our office for public election information. The Washington County Election Commission remains strictly nonpartisan and does not endorse, support, or oppose any candidate or political party.
