The Johnson City Police Department is currently in mid swing of the Impaired Driver Mobility Enforcement Period for August - Sept.

Things to expect:

- Increased police presence between the hours of 6pm - 6am.

-Increased traffic enforcement (As a reminder, ANY speed above the posted speed limit is a violation and violators are subject to be stopped)

The City Council of the City of Johnson City is considering the issuance of Certificates of Obligation (debt) in the amount of $1,060,000 for the construction of a new police station facility and related improvements at the Municipal Complex (City Hall) located at 303 E. Pecan Dr.

In an effort to be as transparent as possible through this process, the City is hosting multiple public hearings and open houses on the matter so that the public has the opportunity to express their views and tour the current police station and its working environment.

TRAFFIC NOTICE – PARADE ROAD CLOSURES

The Blanco County Fair & Rodeo Assn. Parade will take place this Saturday, August 15, beginning at 10:00 AM in Johnson City.

Roads along the parade route will close shortly before the 10:00 AM start time. Motorists should expect temporary traffic delays and plan to use alternate routes while the parade is underway.

Please obey all barricades and directions from law enforcement and traffic personnel. For everyone's safety, do not drive around barricades or enter the parade route once roads have been closed.

If you're coming out to watch the parade, arrive early, find a safe viewing location, and keep children and pets out of the roadway.

Important Traffic Update: New LBJ Elementary Drop-Off/ Pick-Up Route

Beginning on the first day of school (Monday, August 10th), LBJ Elementary will implement a new afternoon student drop-off/pick-up route designed to improve safety, increase traffic efficiency, and reduce the impact on surrounding neighborhoods.

All families utilizing the drop-off/pick-up line will need to turn off Nugent Avenue onto Ash Drive and enter the Shockley Field area.
Vehicles will line up on district property near the baseball field and Shockley Field before proceeding through the established drop-off/pick-up route.

This route is the same one previously used for the middle school, making it familiar to many families.

This change was made because vehicles were beginning to line up along U.S. Highway 290, creating safety concerns, and nearby residents experienced blocked driveways as early as 2:30 p.m. each afternoon.

By moving the waiting line onto district property, we can provide a safer environment for students and families while being better neighbors to those who live around the campus.

We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we implement this improved traffic pattern and work together to ensure a safe arrival/dismissal process for everyone.

FYI:

We have seen several alarming posts and messages about the Pedernales River this morning.

Your safety is our ONLY priority in this situation, so we want to share the latest information and help separate facts from rumors.

Heavy rain upstream has caused the river forecast to change quickly. The latest forecast shows the Pedernales River at Johnson City could reach about 21.1 feet, which is about 2 feet above major flood stage.

While that sounds serious, the river stage number does not tell the whole story.

Our team also uses the Texas Water Development Board's flood mapping tools to see what those river levels actually mean for Johnson City. Based on the current forecast, there is not a widespread flood threat to the City of Johnson City at this time.

Attached to this post is a flood simulation prepared by the City's Floodplain Administrator. The Floodplain Administrator is the City's expert on flooding and floodplain management. This simulation shows the areas that are expected to be affected if the river reaches the current forecast level. The areas outlined in yellow/orange are the areas we expect to see significant water.

Flooding IS a very dangerous situation, but we felt that sharing a visual of what this flooding actually will look like would be helpful to all.

At this time, the main concern is for residents who live directly along the Pedernales River. Those residents should closely watch conditions and be ready to leave if needed.

• Forecasts can change as new rainfall data comes in.
• The City is monitoring conditions around the clock.
• If conditions change, we will let you know immediately through the City's official page and other official channels.

We ask everyone to stay calm and avoid sharing unverified information. Accurate information helps everyone make better decisions.
Our thoughts are also with the communities upstream that have received much heavier rainfall.
