Flags are flying at half-staff in Johnson Creek today in honor of Assistant Chief Matt Anderson. AC Anderson's contributions to the Johnson Creek Fire & EMS Department as well as other departments throughout his career have touched so many. We join Matt's family, friends, and the community in reflecting on Matt's legacy and extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved him.

As we move through coyote breeding and pup raising season, residents may notice coyotes more frequently in and around neighborhoods. This is a natural part of their annual life cycle and is expected behavior during this time of year.

Coyotes typically have pups in the spring. As the pups grow, they begin to explore outside the den while remaining under the care and supervision of their parents. During this period, adult coyotes may be seen at different times of day as they continue to hunt and provide for their young.

Residents are encouraged to use simple precautions to help support safe coexistence with wildlife. These include keeping pets on a leash or supervised when outside, securing trash, and avoiding leaving pet food outdoors.

In most situations, coyotes are simply acting according to natural behaviors and should be left undisturbed unless they appear injured, ill, or unusually active near people.

More information on living safely with wildlife is available through Wisconsin DNR resources.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding ATV and UTV riders about the importance of completing a safety education course and following current regulations.

In Wisconsin, operators born on or after January 1, 1988 and age 12 or older are required to complete a DNR approved safety course and carry proof of certification when riding on public trails, routes, and certain private lands. Safety courses are available online and in person, and are strongly recommended for riders of all ages.

The DNR also highlighted recent updates, including required seatbelt use in UTVs, restrictions on towing passengers, updated penalties for property damage, and new UTV window tint regulations.

Learn more or sign up for a safety course at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/atv.
