Johnson Fire Department Founded in 1895, as the Sterling Hose Company, this page has been created as an outlet to promote Johnson Fire Department activities.

Founded in 1895, as the Sterling Hose Company, organized to offer fire protection services to the Village of Johnson, Vermont. In 1935, the mission of the department changed as well as the name to include fire protection of the surrounding Town of Johnson. In 2004,the fire house suffered a devastating fire on a

very cold February morning, where a majority of the equipment and apparatus were destroyed. Today, The Members of the Johnson Fire Department operate out of a state of the art facility, protecting approximately 96 square miles that include the communities of Johnson, Waterville and Belvidere, Vermont.

We would like to thank the Johnson Woolen Mills for providing us, Cambridge Fire Department, North Hyde Park/Eden Fire Department, and Hyde Park Town Fire Department a tour of their facilities this evening. This allowed over 50 firefighters to become more familiar with their layout, hazards, and emergency equipment.

Last week’s drill was a mock call that brought together three aspects that we have trained on recently, together into one scenario. Our scenario was for a person that had fallen through the ice on a remote beaver pond and we received GPS coordinates for our patient’s location. This allowed us to train on ice water rescue, UTV operation in deep snow, and GPS navigation.

Last week‘s drill was on cold weather pumping. It focused on how to overcome challenges associated with pumping water in temperatures below freezing.
We have encountered these conditions multiple times this winter while supplying water for structure fires.
