Please join us in congratulating Officer Colin Riggs, who graduated from the ILEA 328th Basic Academy! The Basic Academy is a 16-week training course that certifies Officer Riggs as an Iowa peace officer. He will join other officers at a swearing-in ceremony at the Sept. 8th City Council meeting. We wish Officer Riggs the best as he continues his journey in service to our community!

We extend our sincere gratitude to our incredible partners at Wells Fargo Bank in Johnston for their unwavering commitment to preventing fraud and identity theft in our community.

Today, we recognize Vito Salic for his exceptional assistance in fraud investigations alongside the Johnston Police Department. Vito’s professionalism and seamless coordination with investigators were instrumental in holding criminals accountable for targeting Johnston citizens.

We also commend Amer Jusic, whose vigilance during a customer interaction in November 2025 uncovered a fraud attempt. Amer’s immediate action—contacting Wells Fargo’s Fraud Team—enabled him to freeze a high-value transaction and, with support from the Johnston Police Department, recover and return the victim’s stolen funds.

This is a true testament to the strength of our partnerships with local businesses and law enforcement, and how working together leads to positive outcomes for the people we serve.

🌞 E-Bike/E-Moto Summer Guidelines for Johnston 🚴‍♂️

Enjoy Johnston’s wonderful bike trails and sidewalks this summer! Before you ride, please note the following:

🚫 The City of Johnston has ordinances (47.03 and 48.02) that generally prohibit motorized vehicles—gas or electric—on trails, open spaces, or recreational paths. The only exceptions are wheelchairs, scooters, or similar mobility devices for those with mobility disabilities.
✅ E-Bikes (Class 1, 2, and 3): Allowed! These bikes use pedal-assist technology, so you still need to pedal, making your ride easier and more enjoyable.
⛔ E-Motos, Gas Motos, Mini Bikes, Dirt Bikes, ATVs ETC: Not allowed on trails or public paths. They are only permitted on private property. On public roads, they must be registered, insured, and operated by a licensed driver.

👉 We encourage all riders and parents to talk about bike safety and trail etiquette to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer outdoors.

In partnership with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force (CITSTIF), the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnston Police Department will be conducting a traffic enforcement project this Friday, July 10th, in the City of Johnston and Northwestern Polk County. You can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence as officers and deputies from multiple local agencies will be monitoring for traffic violations. Please drive safely and help keep our roads safe for everyone!
