Hot temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds on Tuesday afternoon will result in an environment favorable for rapid fire spread over the plains of northeastern Colorado, including the Denver metro area and I-25 corridor. Exercise fire safety precautions!

🏡🔥Larimer County and the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed - CPRW have launched the Home Ignition Zone Mitigation Assistance Program (HIZ MAP), giving eligible homeowners in Cherokee Meadows, Crystal Lakes, Glacier View, and Poudre Canyon access to up to $4,000 in wildfire mitigation work on their property.

That means real defensible space work — vegetation management, fuel reduction — with contractor coordination handled through the program.

Getting started takes three steps:
1️⃣ Schedule a free Home Ignition Zone Assessment (HIZA) with your local fire department
2️⃣ Determine your eligibility for HIZ MAP
3️⃣ Apply online

Note: applying doesn't guarantee assistance, and the program does not cover home-hardening improvements like roofing or vents. But if you've been putting off your defensible space work, this is the support to make it happen.

🔥LARIMER COUNTY FIRE RESTRICTIONS EXTENDED: MAY 6-JULY 21, 2026

Despite recent precipitation, the danger of wildfire, forest, and grass fires remains extremely high due to above-normal temperatures, extended drought, and persistently windy, dry conditions. ❌Uncontained Open Fires, including outdoor charcoal, pellet, and wood stoves/grills
❌Smoking in the open is not allowed, including on trails, parks and open spaces
❌Combustible devices
❌Operating or using any device with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arrest device properly installed and in effective order

CURRENTLY ALLOWED:
✔️Fireplaces or wood stoves located inside a residence
✔️Gas or liquid fueled fires, including grills and camping stoves
✔️Open burning (official forest management purposes)
✔️Execution of authorized burn permits
✔️“Permissible fireworks” which do not leave the ground, as defined in Colorado State Statute (C.R.S. 24-33.5-2001(11))

PLEASE use good judgment if you're performing one of the activities that are allowed. Always be aware of your surroundings and play it smart. Preventing wildfire is everyone's responsibility!

These restrictions ONLY apply to unincorporated Larimer County; municipalities (towns/cities) set their own restrictions. Read the full resolution and check out an interactive map here: https://www.larimer.gov/spotlights/2026/05/27/larimer-county-extends-fire-restrictions
