Well, I finally decided it was time for me to make this meme.
This song is literally quoted in my dissertation alongside a Herman Melville quote.
Understand, when I first heard this song, I was mesmerized. "Plateau" explains beautifully the world we live in today.
This part:
"Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you got words."
The "top" represents the 1%, the elites.
Once you climb up the face of the plateau after serving your corporate overlords, you discover that you need to grab the bucket and mop for those already at the top.
So, the wealthy and powerful have words, but you must always perform the actions no matter how hard you try to become one of them.
The wealthy can sit back and read an illustrated book about birds while you mop their plateau...
You've only become an honored servant.
You might ask for the Melville quote that resembles this meme? Here it is:
"Delight is to him, who gives no quarter in the truth, and kills, burns, and destroys all sin though he pluck it out from under the robes of Senators and Judges."
The conscience of the people, in a time of grave national problems, has called into being a new party, born of the nation's sense of justice. We of the Progressive party here dedicate ourselves to the fulfillment of the duty laid upon us by our fathers.
