Dear Community Residents,
Will County has a Historic Preservation Commission that was
established in 1992. The Commission works with historic properties
throughout the county. The Commission meets monthly to discuss a
variety of historic preservation issues. Once a year, the Commission
hosts a traveling meeting to allow its members an opportunity to
explore various communities.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2014, the Will County Historic Preservation Commission will hold its annual traveling meeting at the Fairmont Community Center located at 521 Barry Avenue in Unincorporated Lockport. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. This meeting is open to the public. All interested residents are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact Steve Lazzara at the Will County Land Use Department, 815‐774‐7902.

Stakeholders make plans for Route 66 corridor.
Efforts underway to create regional attraction.

Steve Lazzara, senior planner at the Will County Land Use Department, said Thursday at a stakeholders meeting held at the Autobahn Country Club that it makes sense to first reach for low-hanging fruit — or inexpensive, practical ideas that can be accomplished until grants or other funding sources become available for meatier projects.

Adding signage along Route 66 and nearby interstates that will steer drivers toward key destinations is a good place to start, said Bill Kelley, executive director for the Route 66 Association.
“People are driving up and down I-55 ... and I-80 ... and they don't realize the most famous road in the world is right here,” Kelley said.
