The Will County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding Police Agencies have had an increase in reports of package thefts in the area.

Package thefts increase during the Holiday Season, as the abundance of deliveries make front porches the prime target for thieves.

The effects of package thefts can be inconvenient to devastating for victims when stress is heightened and finances are strained due to the holidays.

Please consider the following crime prevention tips:

• Monitor your delivery area with a security camera or video doorbell.
• Give the delivery service special instructions and consider a delivery area not visible from the public.
• Make sure your home exterior is well illuminated and consider installing motion activated lighting.
• Use a designated delivery day for all deliveries when someone from your household will be home.
• Coordinate with neighbors to receive or retrieve packages so they are not left unattended and accessible to thieves.
• Use a Package Delivery Box, Alternative Pickup/Locker Location, or request the Post Office hold the package for personal pick up.
• Keep tabs on your packages by signing up for delivery updates and alerts.
• Require a Signature.

Temperature drops, Vehicle Theft goes up!

The Will County Sheriff's Office is getting an increase of reports of car burglaries and stolen vehicles.

-Always keep vehicle doors locked

-Never keep keys within or near your vehicle (this includes keeping keys far enough from your parked vehicle that the "push to start" feature on newer vehicles will not function)

-Remove all valuables from vehicles

-Never leave a running vehicle unattended

-Report suspicious behavior and vehicles immediately to your local police jurisdiction.
