Yesterday was a doozy for fire calls, as most of you already know. That wind wreaked havoc in our county!

This is your friendly reminder that burn piles can reignite for quite some time, sometimes up to weeks, after initial burning. (We know, it seems crazy to us too!) Severe winds, like yesterday, certainly do not help in the matter.
It is important to monitor those piles, and call us if you need help. That’s what we’re here for!

We hope everyone fared as best as possible with those winds, yesterday.

Yesterday evening Joliet Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire. It is something that happens more than most people realize and we wanted to share a little information about them. The first photo is from the fire we handled yesterday. Please notice the melted aluminum flowing downhill from the vehicle. Temperatures have to exceed 1200 degrees to melt aluminum and the aluminum was liquid for 20 feet from the vehicle. Thats a lot of heat.

Combination of gusty winds, warm temperatures, low humidities, and a lack of snow cover will produce elevated grass fire danger for Monday. Please limit any activities that could cause a fire.

Big thanks to the Fromberg Volunteer Fire Department, the Bridger VFD and the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department for the assistance with this structure fire yesterday. Single wide trailer fires are never easy as they spread so quickly, but with the quick response by our members and all assisting agencies, the fire was stopped half way through the structure. Thankfully there were no injuries involved in this incident.
