As we celebrate 100 years of the Rialto, we would be remiss not to honor Dorothy Mavrich, whose determination and passion helped save the Rialto. In the mid-1970s, the Rialto Square Theatre was on the brink of demolition, but Dorothy refused to let this beloved Joliet landmark disappear. She led the grassroots “Save the Rialto” campaign, which helped earn the theatre a place on the National Register of Historic Places and preserved it for future generations. Because of her dedication and tireless efforts, the Rialto still stands today as a symbol of history, community, and the performing arts. Thank you, Dorothy, for helping make these 100 years possible. ❤️
