Spring is the perfect time to clear out the winter debris that can become a hidden hazard as the weather warms up. While you’re out enjoying the fresh air, taking these steps can help protect your home and keep your landscape healthy.
​🧹 The Spring Clean-Up Checklist
​Clean Out the Gutters: Dead leaves and twigs trapped in your gutters are highly flammable once they dry out. Clearing them prevents water damage during spring showers and removes potential fuel for stray sparks.
​Target Cedar Trees: While they offer great privacy, cedars contain natural oils that make them catch fire easily. Trim back any branches that are overhanging your roof or touching the sides of your house.
​Clear Under Decks and Porches: It’s easy for wind-blown leaves and "dust bunnies" of organic debris to pile up underneath wooden structures. Use a leaf blower or rake to clear out these tight spaces.
​Establish a Buffer Zone: Aim to keep a "fuel-free" zone within 5 feet of your home. This means clearing away dry mulch, tall weeds, or overgrown vegetation that sits directly against your siding or porch.
​A little bit of yard work now goes a long way in keeping your home safe and looking sharp for the season ahead!

🚨 IMPORTANT: 14-DAY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🚨
​Per the Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioners, a 14-day burn ban has been issued for Oklahoma County, effective immediately as of today, March 25, 2026.
​Due to elevated fire danger and current environmental conditions, the following restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of our community:
​NO OPEN BURNING: This includes trash burning, bonfires, and the burning of debris or brush.
​EQUIPMENT SAFETY: Please avoid any activities that create sparks in dry grass or wooded areas.
​REPORTING: If you see a fire or smoke that appears unattended, please call 911 immediately.
​We appreciate your cooperation in helping us prevent wildfires and protecting our first responders during this period of high risk.
​Duration: March 25, 2026 – April 8, 2026 (Unless rescinded or extended)

But today’s weather is basically set to “wildfire starter pack”:

So let’s all make good choices:
Skip the burning
Hold off on anything that throws sparks
Maybe don’t test your welding skills in dry grass today 😅
We’d really love for our fire trucks to spend the day looking pretty, and not racing the wind across a field.

After a busy weekend, your Jones firefighters are right back at it. We wrapped up the day with Emergency Vehicle Driving Operations (EVDO) training to ensure our skills stay sharp. Whether it’s a brush fire or a residential call, we are committed to getting on-scene safely and efficiently.

This afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM, the Jones Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire.
Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of our crews, along with the assistance of our neighboring departments—Spencer Fire, Nicoma Park Fire, Luther Fire, and Hickory Hills Fire—we were able to prevent this incident from becoming a total loss.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Jones Police Department for their support in shutting down traffic and helping ensure scene safety.
We are grateful for the strong partnerships we share with our surrounding agencies. Working together is what helps us protect our community when it matters most.

Last night and into the early morning hours, your Jones Volunteer Firefighters responded to 5 emergencies starting around 2:00 AM — including 4 medical calls and 1 fully involved structure fire.
We want to extend a huge thank you to our neighboring departments — Spencer Fire, Luther Fire, Hickory Hills Fire, and Arcadia Fire — for your assistance and teamwork on the structure fire. Your support makes a difference when it matters most.

IMPORTANT: High Fire Danger!!!

​Please be advised that the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch for our area effective tomorrow, Sunday, March 22.
​Despite the recent spring green-up, current conditions—including record-high temperatures in the mid-90s, humidity levels as low as 15%, and wind gusts up to 35 mph—have created a critical risk for wildfire spread.
​Action Required:
If you have conducted any outdoor burning within the last 48 hours, please take a moment to personally inspect the site. Ensure that all embers are completely extinguished and the area is cold to the touch. Even "contained" piles can easily reignite and spread rapidly under tomorrow's forecasted winds.
​Please remain vigilant and avoid any activities that could create sparks during this high-risk period.

We stand together today with the Goldsby Fire Department.
2 members answered the call this morning, and tragically lost their lives while responding.
We offer our condolences.
Please join us as we pray for peace and comfort for the Goldsby Fire Department, for the families and friends of the fallen, and also the first responders.

As many of you know tragedy happened last night. During this time I ask you to keep our fallen brothers in your prayers they will be missed. First in last out.
