HOUSE FIRE CLAIMS THE LIFE OF A JONESBORO MAN

JACKSON PARISH (June 8, 2026) – The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) is investigating a residential fire that resulted in the death of a Jonesboro resident.

Fire crews from the Jonesboro Fire Department were called to a house fire shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, in the 300 block of Holley Drive in Jonesboro. A 26-year-old man was rushed to the hospital and later died from injuries related to smoke inhalation.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. The home did not have a working smoke alarm.

“This tragic incident highlights the deadly danger of smoke produced by a fire,” said DPS Principal Assistant, Chief Bryan J Adams. “When smoke fills a home, every second matters. Working smoke alarms can provide an early alert and valuable time to escape before conditions become life-threatening.”

Officials continue to stress that properly installed and maintained smoke alarms significantly increase the chances of surviving a home fire.

Through the SFM’s Operation Save-A-Life program, residents are eligible to receive free smoke alarms along with professional installation to help ensure they are working correctly.

For more information about fire safety or to request a free smoke alarm installation, contact your local fire department or visit lasfm.org.
