On February 2, 2026, the Jonesboro City Council voted to approve Ordinance No. 2026-01, prohibiting the sale of kratom in all forms. Under this ordinance, “kratom” is defined as the Mitragyna speciosa plant, any extract or derivative thereof, and any product or substance containing mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, or any other alkaloid derived from the Mitragyna speciosa plant. The Jonesboro Police Department remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of the citizens and visitors of Jonesboro. The prohibition of this previously legal narcotic represents one of many proactive measures the Department is undertaking to address the ongoing challenges of narcotics use and distribution within our community and across the nation.

Friday Chief Montgomery got the opportunity to read to the after school program hosted by the Jonesboro Public Library. The children then got to sit in Officer Taylor's squad car and see what our office on wheels is like. We want to thank the Jonesboro Library for giving us the ability to come in and connect with the children of our community. Remember these kids are the next generation of our town!

Rain, snow and the cold won’t stop Santa from visiting Jonesboro City Hall! Please stop by and have free donuts, cookies, and hot chocolate with Santa. We will have games inside and write your letter to Santa. See everyone tomorrow, Saturday, November 28th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Plus stop by the other businesses on the Square to see what treats they will be serving.
