Woman charged in drug trafficking conspiracy case now facing murder charge
ELIZABETHTON – An Elizabethton woman arrested earlier this year in connection with a drug trafficking conspiracy case has now also been charged with murder in connection with an overdose death.
On Wednesday, deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brooklyn Sue Collins, age 23, of the Siam community, on an indictment charging her with second degree murder and the sale of a Schedule II drug (fentanyl) in connection with an overdose death.
The charges against Collins stem from an investigation that began in November 2023 when a male was found deceased at his residence as a result of a drug overdose. During the investigation, officers recovered the cell phone belonging to the deceased individual and performed a digital forensic examination of the device. Data recovered from the phone indicated that the victim had purchased the drugs that led to the fatal overdose from Collins.
The investigative results were presented to the Carter County Grand Jury on Nov. 3, 2025, and the Grand Jury handed down the indictment charging Collins with second degree murder and the sale of a schedule II drug (fentanyl).
Collins was taken into custody on the indictment charges on Nov. 5, 2025, and was transported to the Carter County Detention Center, where she remains held on a $50,000 bond.
Earlier this year, Collins was arrested in April in connection with an investigation into a drug trafficking conspiracy, which was code named Operation Blue Skies. In that joint investigation by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the First Judicial District Drug Task Force, Collins was one of 10 individuals indicted on various charges relating to the trafficking of fentanyl. Collins was charged with Conspiracy to Distribute 150 grams or More of Controlled Substance; Possession of Controlled Substance 15 grams or more; and Sale of Schedule II Controlled Substance as part of that case.
Collins is now the second individual charged in connection with Operation Blue Skies who is also facing a murder charge in connection with an overdose death linked to drug trafficking.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and additional charges are pending.
“I would like to commend my officers for their hard work and diligence in investigating overdose deaths and drug trafficking in our community,” Sheriff Mike Fraley said. “Our officers are working constantly to identify and prosecute those who sell drugs, particularly those who sell drugs that lead to death.”
“If you are dealing drugs, we will prosecute you. And, if you sell drugs to someone who overdoses and dies, you will be held accountable for their death,” Sheriff Fraley added.
