Town Offices will close today at 12:00 p.m. for United Way Day and will remain closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

SOLID WASTE UPDATE (8/31)

As the Labor Day holiday approaches, the Town of Jonesborough Solid Waste & Recycling Division has these updates to share for the end of this week and into next.

Residential Garbage Collection (Mon - Fri)
Normal schedule Friday 09/04/2026 and Monday 09/07/2026

Commercial Garbage Collection (Mon - Fri)

Brush Collection (Mon - Thu)
Currently paused as vehicle repairs continue. In the meantime, residents can bring their brush to our facility located at 130 Britt Drive, Jonesborough, TN 37659.

Call our brush yard operator at 423-791-1382 thirty minutes prior to arrival for gate access. Hours of operation are:

Mondays – 7:00 am to 1:00 pm
Tuesdays – 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
Wednesdays – 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
Thursdays – 7:00 am to 1:00 pm
Fridays – 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

Bulk Junk Collection (Fri)

Currently paused as vehicle repairs continue. Tentatively rescheduled for Friday 09/11/2026.

Brush Yard (Mon - Fri)

Friday 09/04/2026 7:00 am to 11:00 am (Closed 1/2 day for a town holiday)

SOLID WASTE UPDATE (8/31)
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through equipment issues with our primary brush truck and backup brush truck.

After repair last week and a few hours on the road today, our primary truck is headed back to the shop for more repair. Our backup truck is still offsite.

We understand that this can be inconvenient and thank you for your continued patience. We've had to have plenty of patience ourselves lately as well!

In the meantime, residents of the town are able to bring brush to our facility for drop-off at 130 Britt Drive, Jonesborough, TN 37659.

Our current schedule for mulch sales and brush drop-off is as follows. Call our brush yard operator at 423-791-1382 thirty minutes prior to arrival for gate access.

Mondays – 7:00 am to 1:00 pm

Street Closure:
6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Event Hours:
7:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Closure Area:
Fox Street to Second Avenue.

Please plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we host this community event.

SOLID WASTE UPDATE (8/20/2026)

Brush and junk collection services are currently unavailable for the remainder of the week.

We are experiencing significant issues with our collection trucks, and our team is working diligently to get the equipment back in service and resume collection as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this service interruption. At this time, visits or calls to Town Hall or the Solid Waste Office are not necessary. Please continue to be patient while our team works to restore service.

Tim Herron, a Jonesborough resident, is making a helpful impact in our community. He takes time to walk the roads of Jonesborough, collecting items that could be hazardous and potentially cause damage to vehicles.

Tim plans to repurpose many of the materials he finds as a way to promote safety and give back to the community.

We’re hiring for an equipment operator position in the street department.

This position operates trucks, mowing equipment, and other automotive equipment while supporting the maintenance and construction of public facilities. Duties also include loading and unloading equipment and performing manual, unskilled, and semiskilled maintenance and construction work.
