SRO David Cate is still hospitalized after the crash that occurred this past Sunday. Corporal Cate was in his patrol vehicle getting ready to direct traffic. While we are thankful his injuries were not fatal, he has a long road of healing ahead of him.

ROAN MOUNTAIN MAN ARRESTED FOR VIOLATING ORDER OF PROTECTION, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

JONESBOROUGH – Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Curtis Leigh Hitechew and charged him with Aggravated Domestic Assault, Violation of Protection Order, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia.

According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, Deputies responded to domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Glyn Ayre Drive shortly before noon on Aug. 10. A third-party caller reported two individuals physically fighting in the front yard. Upon arrival Deputies did not observe anyone outside the residence, but heard a male screaming and a child crying. The victim told Deputies that Hitechew ran down stairs when Deputies arrived. The victim stated that Hitechew was at the residence for about an hour before he entered through a window.

Deputies located Hitechew hiding behind a painting under the stairs. Once they had him in custody, Deputies discovered a plastic baggie containing fragments of an orange pill, which Hitechew confirmed as being Suboxone and stated he did not have a prescription. The victim does have an active Order of Protection against Hitechew.

Hitechew is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. His next court date is Aug. 26. If he makes bond, he will have to wear an ankle monitor.

Passing a stopped school bus when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended is against the law. Drivers in both directions are required to stop, except when the roadway is divided by a physical median, such as a concrete barrier or grass divider.

Violating this law in Tennessee can lead to a fine and add 8 points to your driver's license.

A WCSO deputy in the process of directing traffic on North Roan Street was injured today when a vehicle struck his patrol car, with him in it, from behind. The marked patrol vehicle did have its blue lights activated at the time of the crash.

The deputy received serious, but non-life threating injuries and was transported to the hospital. He has a concussion and will remain at a local hospital overnight for observation.

Two additional occupants of the second vehicle were transported to the hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
