Parish-Wide Burn Ban Issued
The Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office is urging all residents to strictly comply with the burn ban issued by the Catahoula Parish Police Jury due to dangerously dry and windy conditions that significantly increase the risk of wildfires.
These hazardous weather conditions create an environment where even a small spark can quickly escalate into a fast-moving fire, threatening lives, homes, and property across the parish.
All outdoor burning is strictly prohibited until further notice. This includes burning of debris, trash, yard waste, and any other open flames.
Sheriff Toney Edwards emphasized the seriousness of the situation:
“The current conditions make it extremely easy for fires to get out of control in a matter of minutes. We are asking every resident to do their part to protect our community by following the burn ban. One careless act could have devastating consequences.”
Safety Reminders for Residents:
• Do not burn trash, leaves, or any outdoor debris.
• Avoid activities that may create sparks, including welding or using equipment in dry grass.
• Properly dispose of cigarette butts—never throw them on the ground.
• Do not park vehicles on dry grass, as hot exhaust systems can ignite fires.
• Keep a water source nearby when using outdoor grills and never leave them unattended.
• Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.
Violations of the burn ban may result in fines and/or legal action.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor conditions and work closely with local and state agencies to ensure the safety of all residents.
Stay alert, stay safe, and help prevent wildfires in Catahoula Parish.
