After the many very sure comments that the floor we uncovered was “definitely a subfloor” I am putting that to rest today.

So this was a pretty cool find and one I haven’t seen before when refinishing historic windows. I have seen them attach the sash rope to a rock before (see video of pocket window at the Dangerfield House) but I have never seen where both sides of the window were attached to one weight going down one side. And this isn’t some rigged way, it’s designed that way so pretty cool. Also the sash rope comes in from the top of the window instead of the sides.

I have been wanting to share this piece of the renovation for a while. It was such a cool find and the floors ended up being in such great shape that refinishing them should go really smooth. I gotta say though getting up the FIVE layers of flooring in the kitchen and hallways was truly some work.
