Members of Ladder 5 as well as Newton County Ambulance were recently recognized for their life saving efforts. Crews provided cardiac resuscitation measures to a patient suffering from cardiac arrest. The patient made a full recovery later walking out of the hospital.

The city of Joplin will also be testing sirens this morning at 10am.

SIREN TEST: (Wed, June 10th, 2026) Even though the sky is cloudy, we will be testing our outdoor warning sirens at 10a today due to bringing on Airport drive to our siren activation system

This week, all three shifts are utilizing our Public Safety Training drill tower to conduct multi-company live fire evolutions in conjunction with new recruit training. The focus of these live fire evolutions is to quickly attack interior fires while simultaneously searching for and removing victims from a structure. These evolutions also allow our new recruits an opportunity to work with their future teams and better understand what is expected of them once they graduate.

Recently Joplin Fire Department Special Operations team members practiced their skills on confined space rescues. Confined space rescues are a highly technical and dangerous incidents that require a great deal of training and specialized equipment.

There are several industries in the city of Joplin that have employees entering confined spaces on a routine basis requiring us to be ready in case an emergency event happens. We are fortunate to have dedicated staff members willing to put in the extra time to prepare for these events and the training facility that allows us to work on these skills.
