Every year the Joshua Fire Department goes out to the elementary to speak with students about water safety. This year we were unable to meet with the students but we wanted to make sure PreK and Kindergarten still got information on water safety and layers of protection. We put together over 600 packets to be handed out when parents go to pick up their child’s stuff from school.

Parents, please take time to go over the information and speak with your children about respecting the water and being safe around any type of water (pools, lakes, and bathtubs).

Visit lifeguardyourchild.org for more info.

Drownings can happen in less than two minutes AND with many people around. #lifeguardyourchild

For now the rain has moved out of the area, but we have received a lot of it overnight. There are many areas with standing or rushing water. Please be cautious and find alternate routes, do not drive through areas of high water.

The reason that so many people drown during flooding is because few of them realize the incredible power of water. A mere six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes only two feet of rushing water to carry away a vehicle. This includes pickups and SUVs.

Play it smart, play it safe. Whether driving or walking, any time you come to a flooded road, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!

Thank you to the City of Joshua Fire Dept for coming to the rescue today when my husband had a seizure while driving. I wish I knew your names and the names of the men that drove by and tried to talk to my husband while he was coming out of the seizure and the girls that moved my car out of the way... I am just so thankful right now. The fact that I can dial 9-1-1 and KNOW that a first responder will come is something to not take for granted. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
