The majority of drownings Cook Children’s hospital sees occurs in swimming pools. Whether it’s a public pool, your neighbor’s pool or your own pool, it’s important to put certain safety measures in place to keep your child from drowning.

One to four year olds are at the most risk to drown in a pool. At this age, toddlers learn by exploring and often have no fear of water. Even strong swimmers are at risk for drowning. Put multiple safety measures in place, whether it’s during a time when you plan to be around water or a time when a toddler accidentally finds themselves around water without an adult in sight.

Joshua Fire Department works closely with Safe Kids and Cook’s to bring education to our city and the county. Stay up to date on the upcoming drowning prevention events we will be apart of.

ATTENTION PARENTS: One dad's viral video of his 2-year-old son climbing up a pool ladder is an essential lesson in pool safety.

4-17-19 RadarScope Loop

Here is another loop of 4 out of the 7 radars services we monitor in the Joshua Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located in the Fire Station.

We also stay in contact with the National Weather Service through a live chat with their meteorologists, local news meteorologists, and emergency managers in all the counties surrounding the DFW Metroplex.

In the bottom left radar product you can see an area turn bright green to almost white. This was an area of approximately 50 to 60 mph winds that suddenly appeared despite the storm showing signs of diminishing.

Radar shows a core of 50 mph to 60 mph wind gusts approaching Joshua at this time.

This weekend, as occurs around this time every year, there will be the potential for severe weather.

It goes without saying that in Texas ALL thunderstorms have the potential for damaging straight line winds (in excess of 75mph) and tornadoes. Because of this you should closely monitor the weather and all available information outlets.

Remember that in the Joshua area almost all of our damaging winds and tornadoes have occurred when no tornado watches or warnings have been issued. They have also occurred with very little, if any, warning as they develop rapidly around us.

Scooter 77

Our job is to respond to emergency situations in a safe and timely manner. Sometimes, our firetrucks are not fit for some of the calls that we go to.

Because of that, we are proud to announce the newest addition to our fleet: "Scooter 77".

With its 250W electric engine, it allows the single rider to respond to emergencies at the impressive speed of 14 MPH. Of course, it does not carry any type of equipment and it has a range of no more than 9 miles.

What are your thoughts on this new generation of emergency apparatus? Let us know in the comments below, and feel free to swing by our station at any time to check it out!
