On Monday, August 24, 2026, Atascosa County Commissioners Court voted to implement a burn ban for the county and will remain in effect for 90 days until November 22, 2026.

* Burning of household trash only, in a barrel with a wire grate on top is allowed.
* Recreational Fires / Cooking Fires are allowed.
* Open flames or open burning is NOT ALLOWED.
* Fires may not begin until 1 hour after sunrise.
* Fires must be extinguished 1 hour prior to sunset.
* A water source must be readily available.
* Approved fires must always be monitored.
* Call the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office to be put in the burn log at (830)-769-3434.

We urge everyone in Atascosa County to abide by the burn ban so we can all work together to minimize the risk of fires and ensure our public's safety.

🔥 PUBLIC INFORMATION NOTICE – RIVER BLUFF FIRE

The Texas A&M Forest Service is currently conducting a burnout operation as part of suppression efforts on the River Bluff Fire, located between Lytle and Rossville. Fire crews are on-site from Lytle, Rossville, Pleasanton and Poteet. Jourdanton, Leming, Blackhill and Ata-Bexar have also been assisting since Friday. There are no evacuation orders.

Residents and motorists in the area may observe increased smoke and fire activity while this operation is underway. This is a planned operation being conducted by fire personnel to help control and contain the fire.

Please avoid the area when possible, use caution while traveling nearby, and do not interfere with firefighting operations.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as firefighters work to safely contain the River Bluff Fire. 🚒🔥
