Greetings Sedgwick County,

For those of you who had the unfortunate experience of seeing this gentleman surfing naked on top of a moving locomotive yesterday, I want you to know that he was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges.

Daniel Ray Ballance of Quartzsite, AZ decided to visit our County yesterday via the Union Pacific Railroad after he broke a window on a locomotive and entered it. To some he blew the horn, to others he showed a little too much.

Daniel expressed his love of vodka, beer, and playing the Banjo. Unfortunately, we had to separate him from those loves and the train ride. Instead Daniel is spending some time at an all expenses paid stay in jail, where he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Have a good night everyone!🏄‍♂️🚂🚔🚨😞

🧨🎇🎆🇺🇸 FIREWORKS ON THE 4th SCSO ORDER

As we head into Americas 250th I feel it’s exceptionally important that we celebrate our traditions responsibly. As your Sheriff and County Fire Warden, I have to weigh public safety versus the importance of this 4th of July. With that being said, I am allowing the use of fireworks in Sedgwick County, so long as you have the permission from your perspective, fire district chief.
No exceptions!

As we get closer, this could change based on weather conditions, so stay tuned to our page.

It is with profound sadness that the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office mourns the passing of Phillips County Sheriff Mike Beard.

Sheriff Beard was more than a neighboring sheriff—he was a trusted partner, a mentor, and a true friend to our agency. Mike was always willing to answer the call whenever we needed help. Whether it was personally coming to assist with training, sending one of his deputies during times of need, or simply offering guidance, he never hesitated to support us.

On a personal level, I had the privilege of speaking with Mike nearly every week. He was always just a phone call away, ready to listen, offer advice, or lend a helping hand. His leadership, kindness, and unwavering dedication to serving others made a lasting impact on me, our deputies, and countless others throughout northeastern Colorado.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheriff Beard’s family, the men and women of the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, and the entire Phillips County community as they navigate this tremendous loss. We also pray that God grants Mike eternal peace and welcomes him home.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23

Rest easy, Sheriff Beard. Thank you for your service, your friendship, and the example you set for all of us. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on in those you inspired.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize and thank Blue Skies Therapeutic Riding for allowing us to be part of such a wonderful program and mission.

Blue Skies Therapeutic Riding provides equine-assisted therapy that positively impacts the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with special needs. Through horseback riding, participants experience improvements in flexibility, balance, muscle strength, confidence, and independence, while also enjoying the many recreational opportunities that come with spending time outdoors.

Their work serves as a reminder that a disability does not have to limit a person from experiencing the joy and benefits of riding horses. We are grateful for the opportunity to join them and witness the positive difference they make in the lives of so many individuals and families.

Thank you, Blue Skies Therapeutic Riding, for your dedication, compassion, and for welcoming us. We appreciate all that you do for our community!
