A big THANK YOU to the Sunflower Ramblers who presented Fresh Start with handmade lap blankets for our shelter guests. They travel in their RVs all over Kansas making stops to check out museums and the local sites. They also like to handout these blankets to organizations that can put them to good use.

From August 3 to August 7, there will be no available appointments for day-only services.
Day-only services can be scheduled beginning the 10th between noon and 3pm by calling 785-390-0102. Those services include laundry, shower, clothing or hygiene items, and limited assistance with case managment.

Correction - we requested $60,000 for 2027. In 2026 we received $45,000.

Our newsletter is finally complete and it goes over last year's day services as well as the successes of our Night Shelter Program we started this past January. Thank you for your support in what we do.

The high school's KAY Club completed a food drive for Fresh Start and we are grateful for their hard work. A big THANK YOU goes out to the students and their sponsors that put this on. Geary County Schools USD 475

Thank You goes out to The Magdalene Project for sponsoring the Warming Center at the Knights of Columbus Hall during this bout of freezing cold temps and possibility for snow, lots of snow. Since Fresh Start has now opened our Night Shelter Program, we spoke with many of our Partnering Agencies prior to opening to help us fill the gaps of services that we had handled before this big change. One of which is the Warming Center until we get all our staff and volunteers in place. So again, thank you goes out to the Magdalene Project and their volunteers who are able to cover this time. Over this weekend, we will keep our clients in so that they won't have to travel in the snow if they don't need to. If you have questions regarding our Night Shelter Program, don't hesitate to reach out. We appreciate our community's support of what we are doing in Junction City, Geary County.

As we have started our Night Shelter Program, we are finding that we are in need of additional "hands on deck". Do you have some time in the evening during dinner, 5:30-9:30pm? Or two hours in the morning, 6:00-8:00am to help out? Evening tasks include assisting with serving dinner once the clients come in, and helping to monitor as they come and go. Morning tasks include putting out breakfast items for clients to make on their own breakfast, and assist staff with monitoring clients coming and going. If you are interested in helping, please message us. We do have a volunteer application and we do background checks on our volunteers for the safety of everyone. Thank you in advance!

Fresh Start Emergency Shelter will be having a Warming Center this Sunday, December 28, starting at 6:00pm through Monday, December 29 at 9:00am. Dinner and breakfast will be served. If you arrive after 9:00pm, please ask local law enforcement to es**rt you for your safety and the safety of our guests and staff. 136 W 3rd Street, Junction City, KS.
